Backpacks for Kids in Need

This time of year many churches have backpack donations, where congregation members fill a backpack with school supplies to donate to local needy kids. My old church has done this for several years. There is really a need and the kids are very appreciative! The last 2 or 3 years I have been able to fill several backpacks for next to nothing thanks to the great back-to-school deals at various office supply stores, drug stores, and big box stores. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be posting a list of free or really cheap items that you can get to fill your own backpack. This week is a great week to start. Here's what I've found:

CVS:
Papermate Pens 8pk - $1.99, get $1.99 ECBs = FREE

Staples: (Sun - Wed. only)
8pk of #2 pencils - $0.01 (limit 2*)
100pk 3"x5" index cards - $0.01 (limit 2*)
Sharpie Accent Highlighters 2pk - $0.01 with $5 purchase (limit 2)

*Staples extreme deals limit is 25 for teachers

In addition to these deals, Staples is offering 50% back in Staples rewards on backpack purchases. In the past, they have offered them free after rebate, but I think it's just going to be 50% this year. Hopefully these items will get you started. There will be many more deals in the weeks to come!!!

A Random Thought

If you wouldn't have bought it to begin with, you didn't save money on it!
